Beginning the journey

Today marks the very first steps in bringing this idea to life.

For a while now, I have been dreaming about creating a shop that celebrates the things I love most, beautiful objects made with care, the changing seasons, local craftsmanship, and the wonderful makers and producers who bring so much character to Derbyshire.

The idea has always been simple, to create a place where people can slow down, discover something special and feel connected to the story behind what they are buying. A shop filled with thoughtful goods for the home, locally made pieces, antiques, flowers and food, all chosen because they have meaning, quality and a sense of place. A space where we celebrate heritage crafts, learn, inspire and build a community.

This week, I have taken the first steps towards making that dream a reality. I have started building the foundations of the brand, launched our Instagram page, and begun sharing the journey as this idea grows from a thought into something tangible.

I’m also delighted to be joining Derbyshire’s new business support scheme, which will help guide me through the early stages of developing the shop. Starting a new business can feel like a daunting journey, so having the opportunity to learn, ask questions and connect with others building their own ideas locally feels incredibly valuable.

For now, there are still many things to discover, from finding the perfect name and choosing the first makers we will work with, to finding and securing funding and creating the space itself and bringing the vision to life.

I want this journal to be a place to share those moments along the way: the inspiration, the challenges, the people we meet and the small details that make this shop what it will become.

Thank you for following along at the very beginning. I can’t wait to share where this journey leads.
