As I begin my journey one of the things that I am both excited beyond belief about whilst equal parts nervous, is the sourcing of the stock for SHIREFOLK. This is so meaningful and has to be right- so right!

I need it to be local, beautiful, steeped in stories and traditions that I cannot wait to shout about. I need it to span a bredth of needs in the shop, a bredth of price points and customer profiles. Something for everyone. No matter who, where you're from, how old you are, and how many pennies you've got in your pocket. I want Shirefolk to cater to as many people as possible and tell as many stories as it can.

This week I have successfully made contact with a willow weaver, a Jam and preserves company, A quilt maker, Blanket makers using recycled wool, Letterpress company, and a factory that makes some wonderful ceramics. This feels like a really great start. I can see minimum orders adding up and also see that this is all very realistic. It strengthens my resolve and makes me feel like this dream will come to fruition as quickly as I let it.

I am already chomping at the bit to meet with all of these wonderful folk and hear their stories, start documenting and photographing and preparing.

A meeting with my business advisor from Derbyshire council on Thursday will see me finding out more opportunities to apply for funding and where she thinks I should next be putting my energy.

This journey is completely riveting.

It fills me with energy and keeps my feeting firmly moving forward.

If you are a maker or know of anyone that you think would love to work with me, please get in touch. I can't wait to hear from you.
